Tuesday May 19th, 2009 Council Meeting

Good morning,

The Guthrie City Council held it's second full meeting with the new council members this week and the agenda was quite short as most of the items were  under consent agenda and approvals of claims. I have stated on other post here that you as citizens have the ability to download these agendas to view what makes up the council packets and see where your money is going. Again when I came on board as councilman this was my way of making sure the general public had access to the City for review.

I would like to also take a moment to thank Lynn Colorio for putting together the First Annual- EAST TOWNSHIP BAZAAR. It is the intention to make this an annual event and I look forward to next year.

Don't forget that the movie The Killer Inside Me is currently shooting on the West side of the town and traffic will be disrupted during the days as movie production is occurring

Let me know if you have thoughts or suggestions that are on your mind. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Cordially

Just so everyone knows; the trailer for The Killer Inside Me has been released and is available on UTube. But be warned it's a bit disturbing and the subject matter is mature. Maybe next time we will get a wholesome family movie filmed here in town.

I would also like to remind everyone of the sacred privilege we have not only in voting for council officials, but to keep abreast of regular city business. This will ensure that the community understands individuals at the municipal level work hard to best allocate taxpayer resources (which have not risen as quickly as the cost of doing business has). Working with less revenue is challenging. Any individual who has constructive ideas that truly address the unique challenges of this City have the opportunity twice a month at the public City council meetings to address our council members. There are also public hearings each year before the budget is established which also provide opportunity for the public to have input.

It is easy at times to complain about the way an entity may be doing business, but it is foolish to complain when there was an opportunity to get involved at an appropriate time, but that opportunity was passed up. It is during holidays like Veteran’s Day that I hope people will remember why we even have the rights to get involved in the first place. It is my hope that parents and grandparents will instill a respect in their children for lives that have been given in this generation and generations before us. None of us should ever forget our loved ones who sacrificed their lives so that we can govern ourselves.

Keep up the good work Vice Mayor! Thank you for keeping a professional demeanor on the council and for focusing on the business at hand.
